I call this THE internet business opportunity because it is so effective. In fact, the company is growing so fast that they won't allow me to mention their name in a website or blog.

Since I'm using Yahoo ads, this is of particular concern to me. Yahoo's search results will contain Google's Adsense ads alongside Yahoo's results. I assume this will bounce Yahoo's ads on the pages that will be server. The test will include 3% of search results and will apply to US traffic, and the extended network will not be affected.

One thought that occurs to me is that Yahoo may be poking a stick in Microsoft's eye, perhaps to get them to raise their bid.

Part of the Google purchase of DoubleClick was the Performics division. Performics provides Search Engine Marketing (SEM), Search Engine Optimization services (SEO), and also runs the third largest affiliate network on the internet.

Google didn't want to get into a conflict of interest situation with a company working on SEM and SEO. Google announced they are splitting the company into two pieces. They are selling the SEM/SEO part, and keeping the affiliate marketing part.

Looks like Commission Junction, Pepperjam, etal. have reason for concern.

Google just purchased DoubleClick who has 60% of the display ad market. Now they've released Ad Manager. Ad Manager is a free tool that will help target ads, manage inventory, and optimize yield. You can sell direct ads and hook them to any network you want.

You may want to contact your congressman over this bill that was introduced in congress.   It is designed to stop ISP's from playing internet traffic cop.

Rep. Edward Markey, D-Mass. who is the chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee's subcommittee on telecommunications and the Internet, introduced a bill to promote the principle, known as "Net neutrality," of treating all Internet traffic equally. He introduced similar legislation in 2006, and he says the bill doesn't regulate the internet, it makes sure that the rules are the same for everyone.

Domains are eligible for a refund for 5 days after their purchase.  Domain tasting is the practice of placing Google Adsense on the newly registered sites.

Google announced yesterday that it will begin blocking Adsense ads from the domains that are repeatedly refunded and repurchased.

Apparently the practice is endemic.  According to Wikipedia, "In April 2006, out of 35 million registrations, only a little more than 2 million were permanent or actually purchased. By February 2007, the CEO of Go Daddy reported that of 55.1 million domain names registered, 51.5 million were canceled and refunded just before the 5 day grace period expired and only 3.6 million domain names were actually kept."

We have to welcome cleaning up some of the spammy practices on the web.

I received a Hallmark ecard today.  It was html & had links back to the hallmark site.  Everything looked real, except the link to get the card was an IP to card.exe. An obvious virus. One would think that large companies like this would track these people down.  It has to be destroying the online card business.

I know I very seldom click on these unless I absolutely know the sender, but many people must, or they wouldn't bother sending these things.

Network Solutions has developed another way to ripoff internet users.  It's called "front running". It's the practice of registering a domain name when somebody does a search to see if it's available. It turns them into the exclusive holder of the domain so they can charge more for it.

They have changed the policy. Now they only front run the domain if the search is done on their home page. What a seedy company.
